Grown-up Guide
- Hints are always free and never lower a score. Ask for one before guessing wildly.
- The Listen row covers both words at once. State and Capital say the word. Spell state and Spell capital say it, spell every letter slowly enough to spell along, then say it again. All four are free and none of them lowers a score.
- Mute sits in the same row, so the voice can be silenced without leaving the round. The Sound button in the header does the same thing. Mute also silences the success chime.
- In every stage a correct answer plays a short chime, says the word out loud, and moves to the next question on its own, so a whole round runs without touching anything. Next is still there to skip ahead. A revealed answer waits, so there is time to read the correction.
- The voice is the one built into this device. No audio is downloaded and nothing a learner types is sent anywhere. Turn it off with the Sound button in the header.
- Spelling stages accept a missed capital letter, but every letter has to be right.
- The eight small northeastern states have a square tab on the right edge of the map, joined to the state by a thin line. Tap the tab when a finger is too big for the shape. The tabs size themselves to the screen, so on a small phone pinch or use Zoom to region first.
- A missed spelling has to be typed correctly once before the round moves on. That repetition is what makes it stick.
- Progress stays on this device only. No account, no email, and nothing is uploaded.
- Work one region at a time first. All 50 at once is a good final check, not a good start.
